Facebook: Spay Neuter Assistance Program of Michigan
Our Mission Statement
Help reduce the cat and dog overpopulation by providing spay/neuter
surgical cost assistance to Michigan residents who rely on state/federal assistance. Developing partnerships with private practice veterinarians and low-cost clinics, collaborating with other animal welfare groups. Promoting public awareness through education.
I have lived in Michigan all my life, working in the family business and now self employed. I have been working with rescues since 2006 and have a passion for helping animals. In spite of all our efforts to spay and neuter pets prior to adoption we still have an overpopulation problem. I know it will take time but I'm confident by working together we can make a huge difference with this problem.
I did not have a pet when I was growing up. In fact I did not get my first dog until 1997 when I was 36 years old. Goldie was wonderful. It wasn't until 2006 that I started working with local rescues and learning about the need for spaying and neutering. Do you know 3-4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States each year? I truly believe together we can make a difference in Michigan.
A semi-retired paralegal, corporate trainer, and IT manager, I became involved in animal rescue in 2004, first via transporting animals from overcrowded shelters where they faced euthanasia to rescues where they could be adopted. After 10 years of seeing wonderful animals put down for lack of homes, I'm very pleased to be working with an organization that will concentrate on reducing the overpopulation of pets so that every animal is wanted and loved.
My dog died several years ago and I didn't want any more pets, until I saw Gunner who was available for adoption through a rescue. It was the best decision to get him. I don't know if I saved him; more like HE saved me.
Rescue pets are so grateful to have family to care for them and the pets love you back unconditionally.
I have been working in rescue since 2010 and I will forever be helping people and making a difference in their lives and the lives of animals. I believe this is my gift. What we do is a movement and everyone can do something even if it's telling someone to spay and neuter. The cats and dogs did not ask for a life like this so let's smile and help one another saving our beloved animals. Together We Can Make a Difference and it starts with you ❣
